This weekend scouts slept outside in the coldest winter of the year. Not! We didn’t sleep outside! Gotcha didn’t I? We slept in a cabin at the Storer Scout Reservation in Barnstead, NH. On Friday night, scouts met at the Pilgrim Church to begin shoveling out the trailer. Scott sent an advance team to the cabin to make sure everything was alright by the time the troop got there. I don’t exactly know how long it took to shovel out the trailer because I was part of the advance team. On Saturday morning, the two patrols combined together due to the lack of scouts and room in the kitchen for breakfast. To start the day, scouts ate egg Mcmuffins, sausages, and hot cocoa for breakfast. After breakfast, scouts prepared to go out into a white winter-land of snow. It was almost a perfect day until of course we realized that it was below zero degrees outside. Through the day, scouts practiced ice rescue, teamwork, winter cooking, fire building, and map and compass. After all that hard work we were ready to relax. Wrong! Scott persuaded us to go sledding. Well at least it was downhill. On Sunday, scouts cleaned, packed, and headed home in a snowstorm! Troop Historian Luke Photos taken by Mr. Paulsen and me. |
